I've been paddling for 9 years, mostly sea kayaking, but I also run some local river races (a mix of flat water and class I - III whitewater) each spring. As owner of Water Walker Sea Kayaks, I have about 25 boats to choose from at any given moment. Lately I've been paddling a Riot Brittany (rock gardens), a VCP Avocet (rivers and wave play), a QCC 700X (ocean touring), and my new baby, a Ruahine Swallow. I'm a Registered Maine Guide and spend my summers guiding trips to the islands off midcoast Maine -- and thus have done little of the kayak racing I would at some point like to do. I've competed in a few triathlons that include paddling legs -- and would like to do more of that as well.
Paddling fast is great -- but more often I like to put away the watch and GPS and just play.

I started flat water kayaking at the age of 14 in the city of Maastricht in the South of Holland. I paddled and raced for eight years and then took a break from flat water paddling and got into white water kayaking. In 2004 I fell in love with flat water kayaking again, became a member of kayaking club KV Zeeburg in Amsterdam and got into marathon kayaking. This year I raced in the Dalsland Kanot Marathon in Sweden and I will also take part in the Veluwe Rally in Holland. On my list for the next couple of years are Devizes to Westminster, the Tour de Gudena and the Regata del Rio Negro.
My training ground is the Amstel river in Amsterdam and Amsterdam's canals. So if you ever make it to Amsterdam I am happy to show you around by kayak, the city is breathtakingly beautiful.

Have been fitness paddling since last season. Used a poly tour boat last year. Bought a used Futura II ( from Andrew Folpe/ Mark Webber- thanks!!) this spring. Finally launched it this month. Funny how the first day you feel tippy; then it all comes together and all you care about is speed and havin' fun!!
I can't wait to see what the boat (and me) can do in a flat water race.
I am finding the combination of paddling/running/biking is keeping not only my body, but my mind sharp and young.
And lastly, thank you, Marek, for making this site possible, it is insperational and informative!
