5 miles - Sisson Nuclues 100 - Marek Uliasz

It was my third 5 mile race in Sisson kayak this year. I run all three on a shallow Beaver Pond in Arapaho Bend Natural Area.

I am making a slight improvement from race to race: 6.11, 6.15, 6.21 mph. However, paddling conditions in the two last races were quite different: #2 stormy winds but a fuller lake, #3 light wind but the water level dropped at least 6".

Last year, I raced Sisson on the Beaver Pond and on a larger and deeper lake (Lonetree Reservoir). I had much better time on the Lonetree Reservoir, but I found that it was psychologically easier to do a time trial on a smaller lake with 5 tight loops, racing from one familiar turning point to another.

According to my Garmin Edge 305:
time: 48:18, average speed: 6.21 mph, max speed: 7.1 mph, average HRM: 141, max HRM: 155
time splits: 9:29, 9:38, 9:45, 9:46, 9:40
6/21/2006 - 5 miles
